IEDs are currently the leading cause of casualties to troops deployed in Iraq. Today, these explosives are being combined with extremely toxic chemicals, biological toxins or radiological materials. Since these devices are nonstandard and prepared with commercially available and normally harmless chemicals there are no specific guidelines for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel to apply to assess, detect and counter these possible threats.
This conference will provide practical information needed to counter IED threats. Focus will be placed on combining training and technology to successfully counter IED threats, evaluating technological capabilities for successful counter IED efforts, considering planning and policies for counteracting terrorism, as well as examining threat assessment and detection techniques.
